The
peg pattern for making these earrings is rather unique. We have a
top wire component and a bottom wire component for these earrings.
At right, we show the peg pattern for the top wire component on the bottom
and the bottom wire component on the top. These two patterns are
identical, but inverted. Instructions for making these two wire
components begin below.Step 1: Cut two 18 gauge wire segments 3 inches long and two segments 2 1/2" long. 1/2 hard wire is preferred. Step 2: Using your round nose pliers or your fine step jaw
pliers (preferred) make a loop in the end of your cut wire with the flush
cut.
Step 3: While holding the loop in the end of the wire, pull the wire segments through your nylon jaw pliers repeatedly to straighten the wire. Step 4: We will start with the top wire component. Add pegs 1 and 2 to your jig. Place the initial loop from one of the 2 1/2" segments on peg 1 and bend the wire against peg 2 until the wire rests against the empty hole for peg 3 with no pressure applied. Step 5: Add peg 3 and wrap the wire around peg 3 so that it rests against the empty hole for peg 4 with no pressure applied. Step 6: Add peg 4 and bend the wire against peg 4 so that with no pressure applied, the wire will rest against the empty hole for peg 5 with no pressure applied. Step 7: Add peg 5 and wrap the wire around peg 5.
Step 8: Remove the wire from your jig and cut the excess wire. Close the final loop using your bent chain nose pliers.
