There are many steps involved in making a necklace and connecting it to a clasp as shown at right. In this case, we are going to err by providing too many steps rather than too few. We hope that these instructions will be suitable for advanced beginners. Remember as you read these instructions that any text in red is linking text. Select that text to view our detailed instructions on that skill. Step 1: Straighten two segments of 22 or 20 gauge wire. (For advanced beginners use 22 gauge it is easier to follow these steps in 22 gauge wire.) Step 2: Cut the wire to a length of 3 inches. Step 3: Grasp the wire with your bent chain nose pliers about 1 1/4" from one end and bend the wire 90 degrees. Step 4: Using your round nose pliers, grasp the wire on the horizontal wire segment and make an open loop without cutting the excess wire. Adjust the loop so that it is centered over the vertical wire segment. See the picture below center. Step 5: Using your bent chain nose pliers, grasp the loop and bend the excess wire tail up. In the picture below-right, the loop rests flat on a table while the wire tail points up and away from the table. Please note that the wire tail is bent up as if it were starting to wrap around the vertical wire segment.
