Citrine Jewelry Making Gemstone

Citrine Jewelry Making Gemstone The citrine gemstone is version of quartz ranging in color from pale yellow to brown.  Citrine is essentially quartz with iron impurities giving it the yellow to brown color.  Both quartz and citrine have a Mohs hardness of seven making them the same hardness as most sand.  Natural citrine is very rare and most commercial citrine gemstones are actually heat treated versions of either smoky quartz or amethyst.  The leading producer of citrine is the Rio Grande do Sul region in Brazil.  Citrine is the "Traditional Birthstone" for the month of November.  (Many use the modern birthstones where topaz is the birthstone for November.)

You can find more information on citrine in Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia here.
