Step 10: Now grasp the wire with your round nose pliers near the
bend that you made in step 9, but on the horizontal segment, and make a
loop. This is a two step process. First push the wire up an
over the jaws of your round nose pliers to the point where the wire makes
an upside down "U". At this point you will need to reposition your
round nose pliers to be able to complete the loop. Once completed
the loop should appear as shown at right. |

Step 11: Now we need to wrap the wire tail around the vertical wire
segment to complete our "wrapped loop". This is done by grasping the
loop you just made in your bent chain nose pliers. When grasping the
loop in your bent chain nose pliers imagine that the loop is solid and you
want to grasp the sides of the loop and not the edges. Completing
this wrap is easiest to do
by holding the chain nose pliers in your non-dominant hand. Holding the
side of the loop firmly in
your chain nose pliers preserves the shape of this loop while you wrap the wire.
Now, using your dominant hand, wrap the wire tightly around the vertical
wire segment above the beads. Sometimes this will be easier if you
use a second pair of bent chain nose pliers held in your dominant hand to
push the wire tightly around. When completed the piece should appear
as shown at right. |

Step 12: When using 18 gauge wire you may need to
make a figure 8 connector to connect between the
ear wire finding and the caged beads component made in step 11.
Complete these earrings by connecting the caged bead component to an ear wire finding
by using the figure 8 connector.
Directions for opening and closing loops to connect components can be
found here.
When making the second caged bead component consider making the spiral in the opposite direction so that the two earrings are a mirror image of one another. In the next page we will show the components used in making these earrings. |
