Step 18: When all five segments of chain have the bead attached
to their bottom loop, we need to wrap fine gauge wire around the top wire
component. This finishes the earring body so that the ear wire
finding won't slide out of position. First cut a segment of 22 gauge
wire about 1 1/2 inches long and using the tips of your round nose pliers,
make a "U" shaped bend in this piece of wire. Position this "U"
shaped bend so that it surrounds the wire in the top wire
component
as shown. Using your bent chain nose pliers squeeze the wire in this
position. Then using your fingers while you continue to hold the
wire in place with your pliers, bend each end of the fine gauge wire so
that it wraps around. Release your pliers and push the wire flat
with your fingers and once it is roughly in position, squeeze it again
with your pliers. Complete about 3 1/2 wraps using this technique.
With both ends of the wire on the same side, cut the excess wire roughly
at the mid-point of the top wire component. Squeeze the two cut ends
with your pliers so that they are tucked in. This side of your
earrings should be on the back of the earrings
(toward the wearer). When this step is completed, the body of this
earring is essentially completed
