This alternative design is shown at left.  The design follows all the steps for making the regular earrings described in the prior pages and adds one simple step.  After the earrings are finished, hold the earring body in the fingers of your non-dominant hand and using your bent chain nose pliers grasp the post portion of the earrings and twist the post 90 degrees. 

Many people will find that this alternative is more appropriate for them.  It is the conventional orientation for wearing earrings.  The alternative design is conventional, but it might not be as "fun" as the way we discussed initially.  With the alternative design, the earring body doesn't stick out both literally and figuratively.  Each individual will have to decide whether they want more "fun" or more conventional earrings. 

The final alternative that we will discuss is a way to make a similar earring from two pieces of wire instead of one.  This alternative is shown at right.  The steps involved in making this alternative design are discussed in the next page.
