In order to make a wrapped loop in jewelry wire using your fine step jaw pliers, begin with steps 1 through 7 as we did previously. Since we normally use a smaller gauge of wire to make wrapped loops, you will probably need to bend the wire in step 1 slightly more than 90 degrees as shown at right. You will also need to have more wire on the short, initial segment of the wire, so that you have enough wire after making the loop to wrap around itself. Other than these changes, our instructions follow steps 1-7 on pages 8A and 8B. To make a wrapped loop our new instructions begin below. Step 7: Remove the wire from your fine step jaw pliers and the wire should appear as shown below-left. . Step 8: Connect the loop to the next element in the jewelry before wrapping the loop closed. In the picture below-center, we show how the wrapped loop would appear after you had grasp the loop with your bent chain nose pliers and held the loop firmly with the pliers while you used your thumb on your dominant hand to push the wire and wrap the wire around itself about 2 times. . Step 9: To finish the wrapped loop, cut the excess wire and using one pair of bent chain nose pliers to hold the loop and a second pair of chain nose or bent chain nose pliers to squeeze and wrap the wire to cause the wire tail to wrap flat, as shown below-right.
These instructions continue on page 9 with instructions for making a wrapped loop using Round Nose Pliers. |
