Marcia's Earrings Jewelry Making Project Step 7Step 7:  Now grasp the wire tail at the bend with your round nose pliers and make a loop in the wire.  This is a two step process that is exactly the same as making an open loop.  You can view detailed instruction for this here.  When completed your wire should appear Marcia's Earrings Jewelry Making Project Step 8as shown at right.

Step 8:  Now we are ready to cut off the 1/2 loop that we made initially.  Using your flush cutter, cut the wire, with the flat side of your cutter toward the finished piece so that the cut end of the wire rests against the loop in the wire as Marcia's Earrings Jewelry Making Project Step 9shown at left.

Step 9:  At this point we need to cut the excess wire from the end loop.  After cutting the excess wire, close the end loop with your bent chain nose pliers.  This completes the 1" per side square wire component.  Use the same steps to make the other 1" per side square wire Marcia's Earrings Jewelry Making Project Peg Pattern component with the other segment of 4 1/2" wire.

Step 10.  We have to make the smaller 3/4" per side wire component.  Add pegs 5 and 6 to your jig.  Place the 1/2 loop on your wire onto peg 5 and bend the wire against peg 6 until it rests adjacent to the hole for peg 7 with no pressure applied.

Step 11:  Continue as described in Steps 4 though 9, making the smaller square wire component.  Repeat this process for your second smaller square wire component.

Step 12:  To assemble these two components we need to make a jump ring and a modified figure 8 connector out of 18 or 20 gauge wire.  If you have both, use 20 gauge 1/2 hard wire.  Make a medium sized jump ring using your fine step jaw pliers as shown here  and here.
