Alternative Design1: Our first alternative design is to move peg 1 at right up one hole. This will result in earrings that are more elongated. Alternative Design 2: Our second alternative is a modification to how the top of the wire component is finished. This alternative is slightly more difficult than the original design. Use 5 inches of wire instead of 4 1/2. After completing step 10 from our original design, remove the wire from the jig and insert fine step jaw pliers into the two loops around peg 1. Now, while holding the wire component in the step jaw pliers with your non-dominant hand, wrap the wire tail around the place where the initial and final wire segments cross just below where peg 1 was. Make two complete wraps then cut the excess wire and squeeze it flat using your bent chain nose pliers. This design requires a modified Figure 8 connector as described here. The finished earrings with the changes described in Alternative 1 and 2 will appear as shown below, right. More alternative designs are provided on the following page. |
