Step 13: Because there are two loops at the top of this wire component, it is likely that a conventional ear wire will have a loop too small to accommodate both loops in the earring body wire component. There are two ways to overcome this. First, you can make your own ear wire, with a larger loop at the bottom or you can use a modified figure 8 connector to connect between your earring body and the ear wire. In the earring shown at right, we made our own ear wire using the instructions starting below. For those who want to use the modified figure 8 connector, our instructions on how to make that connector can be found here. Step 14: Here we begin our instructions for making the ear wire shown. Cut two segments of 20 gauge wire each 3" long. Step 15: Using your nylon jaw pliers, straighten both wire segments. Step 16: Using your bent chain nose pliers, grasp the wire about 1" from the end and make a 90 degree bend in the wire as shown below-left. Step 17: Using your round nose pliers, make a loop in the wire, on the shorter, 1" segment of wire, but as close to the bend as possible. Your goal is that the loop should be centered over the longer wire segment as shown below-center. If you need to, adjust the wire of the loop until the loop is centered. Step 18: Using your bent chain nose pliers, grasp the wire above the loop that you just made and make a 90 degree bend in the wire approximately 3/16" above the loop as shown below-right.
