Step 20: Remove the wire component from the jig. With your flush cutter, cut the end of the wire about 1/4" from the bend made at peg 3. Using a cup bur tool, round the end of the cut wire by spinning the tool over the end of the wire for about 60 seconds. You can view how to use the cup bur tool here. At this point it is a good idea to harden the rounded portion of your ear wire by hammering it on an anvil or bench block with a metal chasing hammer. Your goal should be to slightly flatten the rounded portion of the wire. Step 21: At this point you have a choice. You can cut the excess wire at the beginning of the ear wire and you will have an open loop on your ear wire, or you can connect the ear wire to your earring body and then wrap the ear wire closed. In the photo below-center we show how to connect the two wire components prior to wrapping. It will help if you open the loop in the ear wire slightly with your bent chain nose pliers before connecting them. Step 22: Once the two components are connected, you can wrap the wire tail around the ear wire as shown below-right. Hold the loop in the ear wire with your bent chain nose pliers while you are wrapping the wire. This preserves the round shape of the loop. To complete the wrap, you will probably need to use a second pair of chain nose pliers to squeeze and twist the wire until the wrap is completed without any wire sticking up.
