Step 1: Cut two pieces of 20 gauge sterling silver, gold-filled or
gold wire to a length of 3 1/2 inches long. Do
not use colored wire for making these earrings (other than for practice).
Colored wire can contain chemicals that do not belong inside the human
body. Step 2: Make a loop in the end of the wire with the flush cut. Please see this web page for an explanation of the flush cut. Step 3: Holding the loop in the end of the wire segments pull the wire through the jaws of your nylon jaw pliers several times to straighten the wire. Step 4: Position five metal pegs in your jig as shown at right. Place the loop you made in one end of the wire over peg 1 and wrap the wire around the pegs in the order shown. With 1/2 hard wire you will want to push the wire slightly beyond the point where you want it to end up so that when you remove your hands from the wire it will relax back to the point where you want it. There are two ways to do this. Either you can remove a peg, push the wire beyond where the peg would be and then replace the peg, or you can lift the wire over the peg and push it beyond the peg so that it relaxes back to just barely touch the peg. The pattern shown at right is for the WigJig Delphi. A similar pattern would work for the WigJig Olympus or Olympus-Lite. At the end of this section, we will provide a pattern for the WigJig Cyclops or Electra. |
