is an alternative design that may be easier to make and to wear than the
larger Square Earrings we described in the prior 5 pages. The design
on the right are the Square Earrings described previously. The
design on the left is called Small Square Earrings and uses 4 pegs in a
square separated by one empty hole each. The peg pattern for these
earrings is shown below. Each earring requires 2 inches of 1/2 hard
20 gauge round wire.
We used a slightly different approach for making these earrings than described earlier. We used only 4 pegs and for this reason, the initial loop is on the inside of the square in the pattern, but on the outside of the square when the earrings are worn. To achieve this change, we used our bent chain nose pliers to rotate the square from the inside of the square to the outside of the square after the wire was removed from the jig. Other than this simple change, the steps for de-burring the cut end of the wire and the hardening of the earrings using a hammer and anvil remain the same. The smaller size of these Small Square Earrings may actually make them easier to wear and less likely to fall off during wear. |
