Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making Finding Step 7

Step 7:  Remove both wire components from the jig.  At this point your two wire components should appear as shown at right.Step 8 to Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making Project

Step 8:  Cut the excess wire on both components using your flush cutter then close that loop using your bent chain nose pliers.  You can find instructions for closing a loop here.  At this point the catch portion of the clasp is finished.  The catch is the wire component that was made using the 3/16" Super Peg.  Set that component aside and our instructions will continue with how to complete the hook portion.

Step 9 to Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making ProjectStep 9:  We need to bend each of the loops in the hook wire component 90 degrees.  Bend one of the loops 90 degrees clockwise and the other 90 degrees counter-clockwise.  Grip the wire component by the 180 degree bend made on peg 2 while making these 90 degree bends.  When you have completed both 90 degree bends the wire component should appear as shown above-right.  Please note that both loops are superimposed when viewed from above.  Step 10 to Jewelry Wire Clasps Jewelry Making Project

Step 10:  At this point we need to grasp the wire component about 1/8" from the end and bend the wire about 45%.  After completing this bend your wire Step 11 to Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Wire Projectcomponent should appear as shown at left.

Step 11:  We need to make a second 45 degree bend in the wire component also using our bent chain nose pliers.  We make this second 45% bend about 3/16" from the beginning and ending loops.  Once you have completed this bend, the wire component should appear as shown at right.  Step 12 to Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making Project

Step 12:  To finish the hook, you use your fine step jaw pliers on the second step and bend the wire component around the second step of the pliers to form the hook.  When completed the hook should appear as shown at left.
