Step 12 to Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making Finding

Step 13:  Many people will be satisfied with the shape of the hook as shown in step 12.  For those people you are done.  Some people will want to change the shape of the hook slightly as shown here.  Functionally, what we will do is to turn both of the loops in the hook from "P" loops to eye loops.  This is done with your round nose pliers.  You can view instructions on how to turn a "P" loop into an eye loop here.  For this hook wire component, you can do this on both loops at the same time.

Finished Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making ProjectStep 14:  You are now ready to use your Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp in a necklace or bracelet.  You can view the finished clasp at right (without optional step 13).

This clasp should be strong enough for almost all necklace and bracelet applications.

Advanced Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making ProjectIn the following pages we will provide directions for a clasp that is slightly more difficult to make and may be slightly stronger.  You can view this hook and catch clasp at right.  This clasp is an advanced beginner's project simply because it requires wrapping wire around the two wire components to make the shape more permanent.  We will add the direction for this new clasp to our web site in the next two weeks.
