Step 6: Using your round
nose pliers, make a "U" shaped bend in a 3 inch segment of 20G 1/2 hard
sterling silver. Leave about 3/4 inch of wire on one side of the
bend and about 2 1/4 inches on the other side. |
Step 7: First open the loop in the 18G wire. If you are not familiar with how to open a loop, check here. Now with that loop open, begin wrapping the 20G wire around the 18g wire between the loop and the bend at the second peg. See the figures at right for how this should appear. You need to make sure that the part of the 20G wire that will become the post for the earrings will end in the center of the loop. For the first earring, this will not be important. For the second earring, you need to remember that the finished earrings should be mirror images of one another. |
| Step 8: Continue to wrap the 20G wire. Wrap the long 20G wire segment leaving the short segment until last. When you get to the point where the loop in the 18G wire would be, you need to leave a gap in the wrap to allow the loop to close. If you look closely at right, you will see this gap. Wrap once or twice around the inside of the loop, leaving about 1/2 inch of free wire. When done the piece should appear as shown at right. |
