If you do not pull the chain too firmly, the resulting knitted wire chain will appear as shown at right.  If you pull harder, the chain will become compressed as shown below, right.  You can also use a drawplate to compress the knitted chain.  If you use the drawplate, start with the largest diameter hole in the drawplate and pull the chain through that hole.  Continue pulling the chain through successively smaller holes until it reaches the size that you desire.
