Beginner's Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making FindingThis jewelry making project will provide directions for making the two clasps shown at right.  The top hook and catch clasp is a beginners project and is suitable for anyone who can make a loop and follow our instructions.  The hook and catch clasp shown below-right is an advanced beginners project and is suitable for anyone who has Jewelry Wire Clasp Jewelry Making Projectexperiencing making wire components that involve wrapping wire around itself.  Both clasps are roughly the same size.  Both clasps are suitable for use in a necklace or bracelet, although when used in a bracelet, some people may want to incorporate a guard chain to ensure that the bracelet won't come off.  Given the choice, we like to use the advanced beginner's clasp shown at right (below) rather than the beginner's clasp for the simple reason that by wrapping the wire tail around the component, the shape of the component is slightly more permanent.

Both clasps can be made using any of our WigJig tools, but the two clasps shown here were actually made on our WigJig Delphi.  Making the catch for the clasp requires the use of a 3/16" Super Peg for the jig you are using.  Our instructions for making the beginner's clasp begin on the following web page.  After we have described the beginner's clasp, then we will provide instructions for making the advanced beginner's clasp.
