WigJig Newsletter for July 20, 2003
We are continuing to improve our newsletter, so please feel free to provide feedback at custsrv@wigjig.com. Because some PC security programs block certain file formats from display, we have experienced difficulties selecting a file format for sending pictures in our newsletters. In this newsletter I tried three different file formats for the pictures hoping to find one that will work for everyone. The file formats are shown next to each picture as .jpg, .gif, or .bmp. If you are unable to view all the file formats you can always view the entire newsletter at: http://www.wigjig.com/newitems/.

MAKING DESIGN: With every newsletter we provide a free design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices. This newsletter's free design is the Classic Hoop Earrings shown at right. These earrings are relatively easy to make using twenty inches of 20G 1/2 hard gold-filled or sterling silver wire. Instructions for making these earrings can be found here. |

Jewelry Making Technique of the week: Our WigJig University wire-working technique for this newsletter is how to make necklaces and bracelets lay flat. Sometimes when connecting wire components they do not want to lay properly. Generally, wire components like to be connected perpendicular to one another. For this reason, manufactured chain will have slight twists built into the chain so that it will lay flat. When connecting wire components together in necklaces and bracelets this approach needs to be considered. One easy way to connect two wire components is to use either a wrapped bead link (as shown in the picture at right), a jump ring, or a figure 8 connector to connect the components. Any of these approaches will connect with their loops in the vertical plane, allowing the wire components connected to remain in the horizontal plane. On very rare occasions, you will find that you need a connector that connects to one component with a vertical loop and to the other component with a horizontal loop. This requirements can be satisfied by making a figure 8 connector, and rotating one of the loops of the figure 8 by 90 degrees using chain nose pliers. The technique for making a figure 8 connector using round nose pliers can be found here. |
