WigJig Newsletter for 3/14/2004

New Jewelry Supplies:
We have added a new item to our Internet store.  It is the 3M Anti-Tarnish Strips.  Place one of these 1"x1" strips in a jewelry box and it will minimize the tarnish for the jewelry in the box.  These strips capture the sulfur and other chemicals in the air before they can react with the silver in your jewelry to cause tarnish.  These strips work great with our clear top jewelry boxes to allow you to view your jewelry while still protecting it from tarnish.  There are many opinions on how to remove tarnish from sterling silver jewelry and there is probably some merit in most of them.  The bottom line is that you can use these anti-tarnish strips to avoid tarnish in the first place.

Past Techniques:
We maintain a jewelry making techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.  You will need to scroll down to view the techniques section in each prior newsletter.

Jewelry Making Technique:
During the past month, we have had a few customers who liked the jewelry making  patterns that we had for the WigJig Mini-Athena, but could not find it in our store.  We don't make as many Mini-Athena as our other jigs for the simple reason that we can get the same functionality out of the more flexible WigJig Cyclops or Electra.  The picture near right shows the WigJig Mini-Athena.  The picture far right shows the peg pattern for the WigJig Cyclops that provides the same functionality.  This particular pattern is very popular since is uses a 60 degree angle, the same angle as an equilateral triangle (all three angles in the triangle are 60 degrees and all three sides are the same length.)

This same peg pattern was used to make the wire components in the "Cleopatra's Choker" necklace shown in Dawn Cusick's book, "Making Bead and Wire Jewelry", and the spiral-diamond wire component show in the necklace at right.

At present, we do have the WigJig Mini-Athena for sale for $7.29.  While not as flexible as the Cyclops or Electra, the Mini-Athena is a good entry level jewelry making jig.

This WigJig jewelry making newsletter is provided as part of WigJig University.  We try to provide interesting jewelry projects using beads, jewelry wire and other jewelry supplies.  We hope that these pictures will provide you enough information for you to complete this project.  Some of the skills and jewelry making techniques have not been discussed here.  For beginners, we suggest that you visit our Beginners Start Here pages. These pages discuss the skills necessary for making jewelry in the detail that beginners need. We also suggest that beginners to jewelry making might need to visit the WigJig University College of Jewelry Making Techniques for additional information about some of the skills and techniques shown.

Most, but not all of the jewelry supplies shown here can be purchased in our WigJig store.  We try to have a complete selection of jewelry supplies in our store including chain, wire, glass beads, findings, watches, tools, etc.
