WigJig News: From time to time in our newsletter we describe charities that use beaded jewelry as part of their fund raising efforts. The American Cancer Society is an organization that uses jewelry to help with both cancer awareness and fundraising. There are teams of volunteers from the Cancer Society that get together and make Cancer Awareness Bracelets and sell these bracelets to help with fund raising. You can view one of these Cancer Awareness Bracelets below, left and the color code for the various kinds of cancer that are represented below, right. Paula Hensley is a member of one team making and selling these bracelets. Her team has raised over $15,000 to support cancer research. The bracelets are made of sterling silver with glass beads and sell for $10. Paula's team also makes a Breast Cancer Bracelet with all pink beads and a breast cancer ribbon in the middle. The Breast Cancer Bracelet sells for $12. For those who would like to support this effort by purchasing a bracelet, they can mail a check for the price of the bracelet plus $3.95 postage (within the US), to:
Paula Hensley Please include your address and telephone number along with your check. If you would like to contact Paula, you can send her an e-mail at pmhensley58@aol.com.

Design: With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices. The new design for this newsletter is the design for the 5 Plus 1 Beaded Chandelier Earrings jewelry making project shown at right. These earrings used size 6 crystal silver lined seed beads in the 5 bead dangles at the bottom of the earrings to separate and accentuate the two 4mm bicone beads on each dangle. This is a beginner's jewelry making project. The earrings shown at right were made on our WigJig Centaur or Cyclops, but we also provide a pattern for making these earrings using one of our square pattern jigs. This project can also be modified by adding a second or third tier to make shoulder duster earrings if desired. To view our instructions for making these earrings please select either the picture or the name of the earrings at right. |

Past Techniques: We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters. You can visit this web page here. Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter. |

Jewelry Technique: This weeks jewelry technique is another technique for adding a connector to leather, hemp or cord. This technique uses a finding called a spring end connector. There are a couple of ways we discuss ifor using the Spring End Connector. One is for cord that is thinner. With this cord you thread the cord through the connector, through the loop at the end of the connector and back through the spring end. Once the cord has passed through the connector twice, you can then knot the cord and pull it tight so that the knot disappears inside the spring end. The other method is for cord, leather or hemp that is too large to pass through the spring end twice. For this larger cord, you will need to compress or crimp the last loop in the spring end so that it holds the cord tightly in place. Compressing this last loop is accomplished with flat nose or chain nose pliers. Please select either the picture or the title at right to view additional information on using the spring end connector to terminate a length of leather, hemp or other cord. |
| We have also added
two new pages to our Beginner's Instructions portion of our website.
The first new pages shows our favorite earring, bracelet and necklace
designs on a single page. The second new page shows some
recommended beginners earrings designs. These are designs that
are suitable for beginners as they are not too difficult to make and
they have rather complete instructions. You can view these new
pages as page
33 and 34
of our Beginners instructions or by selecting either of these numbers.
We hope that you will find some designs that you like.
