WigJig News: We are investigating the possibility of holding a day of classes in the Washington, DC suburbs on how to use our WigJig tools to make earrings and bracelets. The instructions would last approximately 8 hours and lessons would be taught by Gary Helwig, the inventor of the WigJig and by Sandra Lupo an author and well known instructor. The classes would start with a basic overview of how to use our WigJig tools when making jewelry and would include an extensive question and answer period. Following the introduction and questions, classes in how to make specific jewelry items would begin and would include how to make the Deluxe Duplex bracelet shown below. That class would be followed by a class on how to make chandelier earrings similar to the earrings below. The goal for these classes would be to provide a beginner with enough instruction so that they could easily follow our free directions in our web site, making any of our jewelry projects. The classes would be held on a Saturday in September. Sunday would be open for sightseeing in Washington, DC. The fee for the full day of classes would be about $120. If you would be interested in these classes please send us an e-mail. If there is sufficient interest, the date for the classes will be finalized in July.

Design: With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices. The new design for this newsletter is the design for the 2 Tier V Shaped Chandelier Earrings shown at right. We provide designs using the round peg pattern of the WigJig Cyclops and other designs using the square peg pattern of the WigJig Delphi. All of the designs can be made on our WigJig Centaur which has both the round and the square peg patterns. These will be the last chandelier earring designs that we post for a while. We had a lot of ideas for chandelier earrings that we had to get out of our system. With these designs we have. In our next newsletter we will provide instructions for making a yoke as the center-piece of a necklace that will coordinate with these earring designs. Our yoke design has a surprise feature that should make it very popular. To view our instructions for making these earrings please select either the picture or the name of the earrings at right. |

Jewelry Technique: This weeks jewelry technique is a discussion on how to use Memory Wire for making chokers, bracelets, rings and earring components. Memory Wire is wire that is specially hardened so that it will return to its round shape after being worn. We discuss three techniques for using Memory Wire -- with a loop at the ends, with an end cap bead at the end and in an endless loop. We also discuss the most critical thing about using Memory Wire -- what tools to use to cut Memory Wire. Please note that trying to cut Memory Wire with regular jewelry wire cutters (flush cutters) will ruin the cutter. The Memory Wire is much harder than jewelry wire and requires a special cutter. We don't show a
jewelry design made using Memory Wire. We just discuss
techniques for how you use Memory Wire. Our sample designs (as
you can see at right) are very plane - vanilla. To view our
techniques for using Memory Wire, please select either the picture or
the title at right. |
