Boomer the Beads & Jewelry Making Supplies by WigJig SpokesdogWigJig News -- AKA Boomer Sez:

New Spokesdog:  We received a lot of feedback on our new spokesdog, Boomer.  Almost all of the feedback was very positive.  We have decided that if an insurance company can have a gecko, we can have a spokesdog.  (In this picture at right you can see that Boomer lost a little hair on his right fore-leg courtesy of a trip to the veterinarian.)

Shows:  Boomer Sez the next show that WigJig will participate in will be the Lapidary Journal Bead Fest in the Greater Reading Expo Center, in Reading, PA from Friday, October 6th through Sunday, October 8th.  The Greater Reading Expo Center is located at 2525 North 12th Street; Reading, PA 19605.  You can find directions to the Expo Center here.  A map showing the Expo Center can be found here.  Gary Helwig, inventory of the WigJig family of tools, will be demonstrating our WigJig tools in the Soft Flex Booth.  Don't look for a sign that says Jewelry Making Project from Judy ZWigJig.  Instead look for the Soft Flex Booth and we will be there.  Boomer hopes that we Earrings Jewelry Making Design from Judy Zedalis. will see you there!

Guest Contributor:  Boomer Sez thank you to Judy Zedalis of Florida who provided us these pictures of her earrings.  You can view two of Judy's designs here.  If you would like to purchase pieces or get information on how Judy made these pieces please e-mail her at jzedalis@tampabay.rr.com.  Our thanks go to Judy for sharing these designs with us.

Boomer Humor:  An Afghan Hound goes to the store and asks the clerk "Can I purchase that TV?".  The clerk in the store says "I'm sorry but we don't serve Afghan Hounds."  The dog goes home and shaves all her hair so that she looks like a greyhound.  Then she returns to the store and asks the clerk if she can purchase that TV.  The clerk says "I'm sorry, but we don't serve Afghan Hounds."  The dog asks the clerk how he knew that she was an Afghan Hound.  The clerk responds "That's not a TV, it's a microwave."  ;-)  (Boomer notes that Afghan Hounds aren't known for being the brightest bulb in the doggie chandelier.)

All right, how about this -- Do you know why they don't have coffee breaks in the Afghan Hound Obedience Training School?  So they don' t have to retrain the dogs.

2 Strand Pearl Beads Bracelet Jewelry Making Project With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for the Two Strand Bracelet shown at right and below.  This jewelry making project uses 8mm beads and therefore the sizes of the wire components that we make must be different than the sizes that would work for the 4mm and 6mm beads we used earlier.

There are four wire components in these bracelets that are made on our WigJig Jewelry Making tools -- an end component, two hole spacer bar findings, 2-1 connectors, and a chain of wrapped links.  All the wire components were made using 18 gauge 1/2 hard wire.  For this bracelet we used 8mm Swarovski Crystal Pearl beads separated by size 6 seed beads.  The groups of beads are separated from one another and the strands of the necklace are held in place by 2 hole spacer bars findings.  The beads themselves are strung on Soft Flex or Soft Touch bead stringing wire.

This will be the last project like this that we do for a while.  We wanted to do projects showing both two strand and three strand techniques using beads in 4mm, 6mm and 8mm sizes.  With this project, we have completed jewelry making projects in all three sizes and in both two and three strand configurations.  In our next newsletter we will show a chandelier earring design incorporating wire, commercial chain and simulated diamonds.

Jewelry Technique:
This weeks jewelry making technique is a discussion of how to make a necklace extender.  Sometimes when you make or purchase a necklace you will find that the necklace isn't the length that you want it to be.  In order to make a necklace longer we can make a very simple finding that we call a necklace extender.

A necklace extender is made from a commercial clasp that is similar to the clasp on the necklace you want to extend, a segment of medium to large commercial chain, and a jump ring or split ring finding.  To make the necklace extender first connect the commercial clasp to one end of the commercial chain using a jump ring finding.  Then measure the length of chain that you need to make the necklace length you want and cut off the excess chain.   Finally, add a medium size jump ring or split ring to the other end of the chain.

To use the necklace extender you simply connect your existing clasp on the necklace to the medium jump ring or split ring finding.  When you are ready to wear the necklace you just connect the clasp on the necklace extender to the existing catch in your necklace and you should be good to go.

Chandelier Earrings with Pearl Beads Jewelry Making ProjectNostalgia Corner:
This weeks featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Chandelier Earrings with Pearl Beads shown at right.   These earrings make an excellent accessory when worn with the pearl beads bracelets that we described in our new jewelry making project for this week.  These earrings use 6mm beads and 18 gauge wire.  If you wanted to more closely match the bracelet described above, you could add size 8 seed beads to either side of the 6mm pearl beads in the earrings.  This would allow you to closely match the seed beads used in the bracelet.  Since the beads used in the earrings are smaller than the beads used in the bracelet, you would want to use smaller seed beads in the earrings (than the bracelet) to retain the relative size of the beads versus the seed beads.
