Boomer the Beads & Jewelry Making Supplies by WigJig SpokesdogWigJig News -- AKA Boomer Sez:

Our Spokesdog:  If an insurance company can have a gecko, we have decided that we can have a spokesdog.  Boomer, shown at right, is our spokesdog.

New Store:  We have updated the software for our WigJig store.  The new software adds a lot of new capabilities like the Wish List feature which allows a shopper to designate items for their Wish List which can be viewed on a later visit to our store.  Boomer hopes that you will find that that the new software makes it easier to shop.  To get to our new store, select the WigJig Store link from any of our web pages or visit our sale items below.

New Items:  We have added one new item to our store since our last newsletter.  It is our Sterling Silver Bling Earrings kit.  In this kit we have all the parts necessary to make 6mm simulated diamond earrings in a four prong post setting.  The earrings look identical to 3/4 carat diamond earrings, but are made with clear/white cubic zirconia.  One of the ways that jewelers use to distinguish cubic zirconia from real diamonds is the absence of flaws.  Since these stones are man made, they are free from the naturally occurring occlusions and impurities that are present in almost all diamonds.  Instructions for assembling these earrings can be found here.  Putting these components together can take as little as 30 seconds.  This is a project that you can complete even if you are all thumbs.  Unfortunately, it isn't a good project if you are all paws like Boomer.

Hedrian Badalvarda Jewelry Making ProjectsGuest Contributor:  This weeks guest contributor is Hedrian Badalvarda of Iran.  Hedrian is considering selling our WigJig tools in Iran.  He has contributed so many designs that we had to have a separate web page to display them all.  Please select the picture at left to navigate to more pictures of Hedrian's jewelry.  If you have any questions for Hedrian, he can be contacted at hedrianb@yahoo.com.  Boomer says thank you to Hedrian for sharing his designs with us.

Warning! Philosophy Follows.  This is only one person's opinion.  This does not mean that we are opposed to anyone.

Boomer Philosophy:  Boomer was asking us the other day why would people buy coral.  He noted that coral was not an organism that could be farmed like oysters.  The only way that people can harvest coral is by dragging a net over a coral reef.  The net snags the coral and breaks it.  Unfortunately, this process causes not only the coral to die, but every fish and sea creature living on that reef also dies as their home in the coral is destroyed.  Because coral is so slow growing, that reef will not regenerate itself for the next 100 years.  We had to explain to Boomer that people who buy coral jewelry don't understand how many organisms have to die so that they can wear coral jewelry.  We have made a conscious decision that we will not sell coral beads.  Boomer asks that everyone consider the impact of buying coral before you purchase any coral beads or jewelry.

Warning! Joke Follows.
This is only a joke.  We tell jokes because we are in favor of smiling, laughing and being happy.  This does not mean that we are opposed to anyone or anything.

Boomer Humor:  Boomer was talking to a North Korean dog last week and he said "We have a lot freedoms in the US.  In fact, we are so free that I could pull a wagon with a sign that says 'President Bush is doing a bad job' in front of the white house and not get in trouble."  The North Korean dog responded "We have the same freedoms in my country."  Boomer responded "Really?"  The North Korean dog said "Sure, I could parade in front of Chairman Kim Jong Il's Palace with a sign that said 'President Bush  is doing a bad job."  ;-)

Boomer wants everyone to know that this is not a statement of his opinion of President Bush.  It is just a joke.  Boomer loves President Bush.  If fact, Boomer would vote for President Bush if he could.  Barney, the President's first dog, is very well respected in dog circles.

Simple Jewelry Wire Ring Jewelry Making Project Simple Jewelry Wire Ring Jewelry Making ProjectWith every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for the Simple Jewelry Wire Ring shown here.  This is an advanced beginner's jewelry making project and is very easy to make.  The project uses two regular pegs from any of our jigs separated by 2 1/2 inches.  It also uses a ring mandrel to get the round shape of the ring and a nylon hammer to coax the wire to follow the shape of the ring mandrel.  The ring can be made in 14, 16 or 18 gauge soft wire, but will be stronger and more permanent when made in 14 gauge wire.  We Simple Jewelry Wire Ring Jewelry Making Projectstrongly suggest making this ring first in 18 gauge wire until you have perfected the technique then trying the larger gauges.

This ring design can be adapted to make a toe ring, or it can be modified to include a bead as shown above-right.  Because of the way the ring is made, it is easy to adjust the size of the ring plus or minus one size.

Past Techniques:
We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.

Jewelry Technique:
This weeks jewelry making technique is a series of project templates for the WigJig Olympus, WigJig Olympus Lite and WigJig Delphi.  If you have one of these jigs you can download and print a page in Adobe Acrobat format that you can use to document your projects or designs.    You can download the Olympus project template here.  You can download the Olympus Lite project template here.    You can download the Delphi project template here.  We should have done this a while ago.  Sometimes we get smarter as we get older.   We used Adobe Acrobat for these project pages so that the size and shape of the peg pattern on the jig would be preserved.  We also left space to hole punch the page so that it could Caged Beads Necklace Jewelry Making Projectbe inserted into a notebook.  We are still working on the templates for the Centaur, the Cyclops and the Electra.  If you need to find these pages in the future, you can get to them through our "Choosing a Jig" link on our home page.

Nostalgia Corner:
This weeks featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Caged Beads Necklace shown at right.   In the instructions for making this necklace we show how to make caged beads and we also show how to make a hook and catch clasp.

Because the wire hides most of the beads inside the cages, this is something you can do with beads that may not be your favorites.  You get a hint of color from the beads, but only a hint.

Please select here, or select the picture at right to view our instructions for making the Caged Beads Necklace.
