Boomer the Beads & Jewelry Making Supplies by WigJig SpokesdogWigJig News -- AKA Boomer Sez:

Our Spokesdog:  If an insurance company can have a gecko, we have decided that we can have a spokesdog.  Boomer, shown at right, is our spokesdog.

New Items:  We have some new sizes of bling gemstones now in our store.  The new sizes are 10mm beads in the following new colors --  emerald, aquamarine, blue sapphire, blue topaz and blue zircon.  The pictures of the Blue Topaz and Blue Zircon beads don't do these gemstones justice.  We plan on retaking these pictures.  Boomer sez trust us, if you like blue, you will like these colors.  You can view the new colors of 10 mm beads below.  (Just prior to Thanksgiving, we ran out of several sizes and colors of gemstones.  We now have most sizes of our gemstones in stock and will have more in stock Tuesday evening as another shipment will arrive on Tuesday.)

Sanja's Bracelet Jewelry Making ProjectGuest Contributor:  Our guest contributor this week is Sanja Kljajic from Sibenik, Croatia.  Sanja, is a 38 year old mother of two.  Sanja makes bead and wire jewelry to sell both in souvenir shops and in a jewelry stand Sanja Kljajic's Jewelry Wire Ring Jewelry Making Projectthat she and a friend operate during the tourist season in Sibenik.  Sanja has a daytime job as a technician in a planning office; and she has been making jewelry in her spare time for two years now.  Sanja explained to us that Sibenik, Croatia is a town of 40,000 people and is famous for its sight seeing.  You can view information on Sibenik in English here.  Pictures of Sibenik can be found here.   If you have questions for Sanja, she can be reached via e-mail at sanja.kljajic@si.htnet.hr.  We have many more pictures of Sanja's jewelry that you can view by selecting either picture above, or by selecting here.  (Boomer sez click on several pictures of Sibenik in the above web site.  You will find them both interesting and very picturesque.)

Boomer Philosophy:  What do you do when you are making a new design and it doesn't work properly the first time?  You could quit, or your could scream for help.  Boomer sez that the best approach is to do a little trial and error experimentation.  Try using a different gauge of wire.  Try using a different hardness of wire.  You can even try using a different approach to shaping the wire.  The important thing is to try several things, but only change one thing at a time.  This is the basis for the "Scientific Approach" and it even works for more mundane tasks like making jewelry with wire and beads.

Warning! Joke Follows.
This is only a joke.  We tell jokes because we are in favor of smiling, laughing and being happy.  This does not mean that we are opposed to anyone or anything.  So far, every newsletter that included a joke elicited a complaint from someone.  Our last newsletter kept this string alive.  If you are a sensitive person, please skip this portion of our newsletter.  This week's joke is not a Readers Digest joke so please skip this if you are sensitive.

Boomer Humor:  Boomer likes to play Frisbee but for a reason he hadn't previously described he only plays Frisbee in the afternoon immediately prior to his dinner.  In the afternoon, Gary will throw the Frisbee and Boomer would chase it and catch it on the fly, then bring it back.  When given the opportunity to play Frisbee in the morning, Boomer isn't interested.  Last week Gary asked Boomer why he wasn't interested in playing Frisbee in the morning.  While sitting in the grass, Boomer looked up and indicated in Boomer sign language "I'm sorry, but I've got Anal Glaucoma."  Gary asked Boomer what kind of illness was Anal Glaucoma.  Boomer replied "I really can't see my butt getting off this grass and chasing that Frisbee."  (This worked for Boomer.  Gary and Boomer didn't play Frisbee.  You can also try this at work.  Call in sick with Anal Glaucoma and when your boss asks for an explanation tell your boss "I really can't see my butt getting out of bed today."  It should get a laugh, but be prepared to go to work anyway.)  In the picture of Boomer at the top of this newsletter, you can see what he looks like when he is afflicted with AG.

Free Jewelry Design:
Square Knots Beads & Gemstones Earrings Jewelry Making Project Square Knot Beads & Gemstones Jewelry Making ProjectWith every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for the Square Knot Gemstone & Beads Earrings shown here.  We polished these earring prior to taking the pictures and the silver was very shiny.  Unfortunately while we liked the shiny look, our camera did not.  These pictures don't do the earrings justice.  We plan on making these earrings in gold-filled wire and taking new pictures.  Until we do, please trust us, Boomer sez you will like these earrings.

This is an advanced beginners jewelry making project.  It can be made on any of our WigJig tools, but it does require a 3/16" or 1/4" Super Peg in addition to one regular metal peg for your jig.  The Square Knot wire component is made from two teardrop wire components that are combined to make the link shown here.  We've provided peg patterns to make this Square Knot wire component in three different sizes.  In the future, we plan on making this component as a link in a necklace or bracelet.

To view our instructions for how to make these Square Knot Gemstone and Beads Earrings select here, or select either picture above.

Past Techniques:
We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.

Wrapped Figure 8 Connector Jewelry Making FindingJewelry Technique:
Wrapped Figure 8 Connector Jewelry Making FindingThis weeks jewelry making technique is the technique for making a wrapped figure 8 connector.  This is a connector to use when you want a figure 8 connector but want something stronger than the open loops on a conventional figure 8 connector.  It is perfect to use when you are connecting a watch to a watchband as shown at left.

The wrapped figure 8 connector is made with about 2 1/2" of wire using your round nose pliers, bent chain nose pliers and flush cutter.  It does not require one of our WigJig tools.  You can view our instructions for making the wrapped figure 8 connector by selecting either picture, or by selecting here.

Nostalgia Corner:
Amethyst Cubed Beads Bracelet Jewelry Making ProjectThis weeks featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Amethyst Cubed Beads Bracelet shown at right.  This bracelet uses a center component that is very similar to the wrapped figure 8 connector described above, only larger.  The wire accent piece in the center of this bracelet is 2-3 times larger than the wrapped figure 8 connector and for this reason, it does use one of our WigJig tools so that the figure 8 shape will be consistent and repeatable.

Please select here, or select the picture at right to view our instructions for making the Amethyst Cubed Beads Bracelet.
