SpokesDog Boomer for Beads, Tools and Jewelry Making Supplies by WigJig Web SiteWigJig News -- AKA Boomer Sez:

Our Spokesdog:  If an insurance company can have a gecko, we have decided that we can have a spokesdog.  Boomer, shown at right, is our spokesdog.

Vendor in Canada:  We have a new vendor in Canada who has elected to carry our WigJig tools.  They are Carousel Rubber Stamps; 50 Queen Street; Dartmouth, Nova Scotia B2Y 1G1 Canada.  Faye McLean is the owner and can be reached at 902-464-9474.  Boomer sez welcome to the WigJig family!

Emerald Cubic Zirconia (CZ) gemstone for making jewelryBirthstone for May:  The birthstone for May is the emerald.   We have a lot of good information on emeralds that is too detailed to include in our newsletter.  Please select here to view our information on emeralds.

While we don't sell emeralds, we do sell emerald colored cubic zirconia (CZs) that are harder and stronger than an emerald.  One of the disadvantages of real emeralds is that the stones are vulnerable to breakage and chipping and are relatively soft (about the same hardness as sand). We also have information on cubic zirconia here.  This month we have our 8mm emerald colored CZs on sale for 20% off.  You can view these gemstones in our Internet store here.

BEADEX 2007 in South Africa:  BEDEX 2007 will be held May 11, 12 and 13 in the Sandton Convention Centre.  You can view information on this show at http://www.beadex.co.za/.  Our WigJig products will be represented at the show by The Bead People.  You can view information on The Bead People at:  http://www.thebeadpeople.co.za/

Guest Contributor:    This month's guest contributor is Sharon Dunleavy.  Sharon has designed a necklace to go with our Deluxe Duplex Bracelet.  Sharon is 34 years old and has been making wire and beaded jewelry for the last two years.  She works full time as the Director of Children's Ministries at a local church and has been doing ministry work for 11 years.  Beading is her escape from work.  Sharon is married and has a five year old daughter who loves to help her making jewelry.  Her daughter's job on the necklace below was to "squish" each duplex component to flatten it, with nylon jaw pliers.  You can view the necklace here:

Sharon's e-mail address is sdunlevy@sbcglobal.net if you have questions about her design.

Boomer sez thank you to Sharon for allowing us to display her very lovely necklace design.   Someone did a great job on squishing the wire components.

Nor'Easter Storm Pictures:  Last month, a few of our customer's were inconvenienced because we were not able to respond to calls and answer e-mails as rapidly as we normally would.  Unfortunately, our customer service person, Marcia, lives in Portland, Maine and suffered from 4 days of no power due to the storm in late April.  Here are two pictures that show the Portland Head Lighthouse in the aftermath of the storm.  These pictures were taken with a cell phone camera, but they still have enough resolution to show the power of the storm.  The lighthouse is normally 20-30 feet above the sea.

Free Jewelry Design:
Wire Wrapped Chain Watchband with Beads Jewelry Making Project Wire Wrapped Chain Bracelet with Beads Jewelry Making ProjectWire Wrapped Chain Earrings with Beads Jewelry Making ProjectWith every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new designs for this newsletter are the designs for the Wire Wrapped Chain Bracelet, Watchband and Earrings shown here.  There are actually two different, but related chain designs, the bracelet and earring on the left use a wrapped chain design and the watchband on the right uses a similar chain with open (not wrapped) loops.

This chain is relatively easy to make and would be suitable for an advanced beginner.  It uses about four feet of 22 gauge wire and some beads.  The tools required are any WigJig tool with two metal pegs, round nose pliers, bent chain nose pliers and step jaw pliers along with a flush cutter.

This same chain could be used in a necklace, interspersed with 3-5 links of chain and then a bead followed by 3-5 links of chain.

We really like both chain designs.  If you have a large, attractive, bead that is looking for a project, making the bracelet shown at left is a very good project.

Past Techniques:
We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.

Jewelry Technique:
This week's jewelry making technique is a discussion on making chain.  We have added two new chain designs to our web site.  You can view finished jewelry pieces using this chain design in our Jewelry Making Project for this newsletter.  The two new chain designs can be seen below:Wire Wrapped Chain Jewelry Making ProjectWire Wrapped Chain Jewelry Making Project

Nostalgia Corner:
Beaded Necklace jewelry making projectThis Classic Pearl Beads Necklace jewelry making projectweek's featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Necklaces with Beads for Men.  On the left we show the necklace we originally made for this project.  On the right we show a new necklace made for women using an almost identical design and our new 8mm Black Onyx AA Grade beads.  The necklace at right is choker length for a woman (16" long) and is intended for wear by a woman.  This necklace uses the 8mm Black Onyx AA Grade beads separated by size 11 gold light S/L seed beads.  What color necklace goes with almost any color dress?  (Black, of course.)  Given that a 16" strand of these black onyx beads costs less than $7, this necklace is both attractive and inexpensive.  Grade AA means that these beads have no visible imperfections.  The 8mm black onyx grade AA beads used in the necklace on the right are on sale for 20% off our normal price during the month of May.

Please select here, or select the picture above to view our instructions for making the necklaces shown here.

Warning! Joke Follows.
This is only a joke.  We tell jokes because we are in favor of smiling, laughing and being happy.  This does not mean that we are opposed to anyone or anything.

If you have ever in your entire life been offended by any joke  -- please skip the below paragraphs.

Boomer Humor:  Boomer just got back from our local fire hydrant.  He was busy checking his pee-mail.  Now we are ready for a couple of jokes courtesy of Jeff Foxworthy.  Jeff Foxworthy's jokes often have the theme that you might be a redneck if --

1.  You might be a redneck if you've ever been accused of lying through your tooth.

2.  You might be a redneck if you have a home that's mobile and 6 cars that aren't.

Please note this does not mean that we don't like rednecks or people who are dentally challenged.  In our family, our grandparents were never accused of lying through their tooth because they didn't have any.  Our family has had a dental plan for years and years.  Our family dental plan is chew on the side that doesn't hurt.

We are continuing to improve our newsletter, so please feel free to provide feedback at custsrv@wigjig.com
