Green Tourmaline Jewelry Making GemstoneBirthstone for October:   The birthstone for October is the Tourmaline.  Tourmaline can come in many colors, but is best know in the pink and green colors.  In our Internet store we sell man-made green tourmaline shown at right.  Tourmaline has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 which is the same as sand and for this reason, we do not recommend tourmaline for rings or bracelets as this jewelry may get more abrasion than necklaces and earrings.  Because tourmaline is relatively soft, it may be susceptible to abrasion from dust or sand.

Necklace Made with Pinch Bail Jewelry Making FindingNew Items:  We have added  several new jewelry making findings called a Earings Made with Pinch Bail Jewelry Making Findingbail.  These findings are also called an ice pick bail or a pinch bail.  A bail is used to make a large gemstone into a pendant or earring body connecting between the chain or ear wire and the gemstone itself.  You can view a picture of a bail being used to make a pendant necklace at right.  The bail is used by inserting the prongs in the bail finding into the hole in a gemstone front and back and then squeezing the bail closed.  In our jewelry making techniques section of this newsletter, below, we will show how to use a pinch bail to make necklaces and earrings.  Please select any picture to view that item in our Internet store.

Free Jewelry Design:
With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for four new earrings based upon our Double Spirals wire component.  We provided instructions earlier on how to make the Double Spirals Bracelet.  We have just added how to make four different earrings using the same double spirals wire component, but different connectors between that wire component and your ear wire.  You can view the four different earring designs below.  All four designs are advanced beginner's projects.  If you can use our WigJig tools and a Spiral Maker to make the double spiral wire component you will find that making these earrings is easy.

Earings Made with Pinch Bail Jewelry Making FindingJewelry Technique:
This week's jewelry making technique is our new instructions for how to use a pinch bail to make gemstone earrings.  This may be one of our easiest jewelry making projects.  In fact, if you can open and close a loop using bent chain nose pliers and you can squeeze a lemon, you can make these earrings.  The pinch bail finding is called by that name because all Using a Pinch Bail Jewelry Making Findingyou have to do to use the finding is position it properly and then pinch it closed.  The picture at left shows how the bailUsing a Pinch Bail Jewelry Making Finding looks when in position on a gemstone.  The picture at right shows a bail by itself.  In the picture at right, you can view the two prongs on the bail finding.  These two prongs are positioned into the holes in a gemstone that has front-to-back holes and then pinched closed.  You can use just your fingers to pinch the bail closed.  Some people may find that using nylon jaw pliers makes it easier for them to pinch the bail closed.  The one caveat is to pinch slowly so that the Pinch Bail Necklace Jewelry Making Findingfinding doesn't get bent out of shape.

The gemstones in our Internet store that work best with the pinch bail finding are our 18mm flat pear cubic zirconia gemstones, item 3388 in pink, item 3389 in clear, item 3390 in champagne, item 3391 in red, item 3392 in lavender, item 3393 in golden yellow, item 3394 in amethyst and item 3395 in olive green

Nostalgia Corner:
Making a Necklace with 1/2 Drilled Pearl BeadsMaking Jewelry with 1/2 Drilled Pearl BeadsThis week's featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for making jewelry with 1/2 drilled pearls.  With Christmas coming, it is time to begin thinking about some inexpensive and easy to make jewelry projects to give as gifts.  These pearl bead projects could not be easier.  If you can use glue, you can make this jewelry.  All that is required is to apply jeweler's cement (item 0359 in our Internet Store) to the post on the jewelry finding and then slide the 1/2 drilled pearl onto the post.  You will need to allow 30 minutes to an hour for this glue to fully set.  When you are done, you can begin wearing your new pearl jewelry.

This week we have real 1/2 drilled, white Grade AAA freshwater pearls on sale in a 6mm size for a discount of 30%.  Please select here to view these freshwater pearls in our Internet store.  These pearls work perfectly with our earrings findings item 3289 in sterling silver or item 3290 in gold-filled 1/2 Drilled Pearl Beads Leverback Earrings Jewelry Making Project

Warning! Joke Follows.
This is only a joke.  We tell jokes because we are in favor of smiling, laughing and being happy.  This does not mean that we are opposed to anyone or anything.

If you have ever in your entire life been offended by any joke  -- please skip the below paragraphs.  It is not our intention to offend anyone!  We don't write these jokes, we only re-tell jokes that we have heard on the public radio, television or over the Internet.

Boomer Humor:

A man and a woman are sitting at a restaurant and the waitress notices that the man at the table slowly slides down out of his chair and under the table.  The woman at the table completely ignores the fact that her partner seems to be in distress.  After viewing this situation the concerned waitress comes to the table and asks the woman if there is anything she can do to help.  The woman at the table says "no thank you."  This confuses the waitress and she asks the woman if she is aware that her husband has slipped under the table.  The woman responds "That's not my husband.  My husband just walked in the door."

Remember, no actual infidelity took place during the telling of this joke, and it is just that, only a joke.
