How to Unsubscribe: If you signed up for our newsletter and
then decided you don't want to receive it any more, the proper way to
unsubscribe is to select the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of every
newsletter e-mail or to follow our sign up link above. On that sign up
page we also provide a way for people to unsubscribe. Contribution to Race for the Cure: WigJig will contribute $1 for every order placed with our company between September 17th and October 17th to the Race for the Cure. Race for the Cure is part of the Susan G Komen foundation and is a charity that supports research toward a cure for breast cancer. The foundation has helped train more than 400 breast cancer researchers and has funded more than 1,800 research projects over the past 26 years. In fact the Komen Foundation has provided more money for breast cancer research and community health programs than any other organization with the exception of the US Government. We at WigJig have also placed our breast cancer awareness charm on sale for$2.23 each, 20% off the normal retail price. Finally, for those who want to contribute to the Komen Foundation directly, you can visit http://ww5.komen.org/.
Google Language Translation: We
are experimenting with the Google Translation module on our web site and our
store. This software is undergoing beta testing by Google. It is
far from perfect, but it may be better than nothing for our foreign readers.
You can view the translation module in the upper right portion of this web
page. The good news is that this module will automatically and rapidly
translate any web page to one of 35 languages. The bad news is that
the translations are not perfect. There is more bad news -- you need
to be able to read English to know where to go to request the translation.
We hope that this application will help some of our readers to better enjoy
our web site.
If
you would like to send us a comment on this translation software please

This month we are discounting our 8mm man-made green tourmaline (Item 3333) by 20%. Please select the picture at right to view this product. New Products: We have just added 4mm low wall bezel findings to our Internet store. Now we have low wall bezel findings in sizes from 4mm to 10mm. These findings are one of the easiest ways to make jewelry. You can view a simple earring jewelry making project with our low wall bezel findings below-left. We also have a You Tube Video that shows how to use our low wall bezel findings to make earrings. You can view that jewelry making video here. You can view a close up of our 4mm low wall bezel findings below center-right and below far-right. Finally, in our new jewelry project for this month, we used our low wall bezel findings to make dangle earrings. You can view those dangle earrings below center-left.

We are very sorry. WigJig as a company is in the process of moving. We are moving out of Maryland and ultimately will move to Florida or Texas. Both states have many benefits, including the fact that neither state has a state income tax. We hope to make a final decision on our move during the month of October. As anyone who has ever moved can testify, moving is a time consuming process. Our hope is that we will be able to get our future newsletters out in a timely manner without sacrificing quality. Again, we apologize to our newsletter subscribers that we have not been able to provide the number and quality of newsletters that we wanted. |

Design: With every newsletter
we provide a new jewelry design
from WigJig University
to spur the creative juices. This week's new design is our
design for the Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire & Gemstones Earrings shown
left and right. These earrings can be made either with our new 4mm
low wall bezel findings or with our 6mm low wall bezel findings.
These earrings are made from several simple to make wire components that
are connected together. For that reason, this is a beginner's
jewelry making project.
In the earring design shown at left, we recommend using 4mm low wall bezel findings. The pattern for the earrings shown at right is better for 6mm low wall bezel findings. These earrings can be made using our WigJig Delphi, WigJig Centaur, WigJig Olympus-Lite or WigJig Olympus with seven regular metal pegs for the jig. You can find a WigJig Centaur template for this jewelry making project here. For beginners, we recommend using 20 gauge wire for this project. For slightly more advanced wire workers, we recommend using 18 gauge wire. For the earrings shown above, we used 18 gauge wire for a slightly bolder look. |

Past Techniques: We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters. You can visit this web page here. Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.
Jewelry Technique:
First, the important part of the wire gauge isn't the holes, it is the notch between the hole and the edge of the wire gauge. This notch is created to exactly measure the diameter of the wire being measured. To use the gauge, you slide your wire from the outside of the tool to the hole in the tool by placing your wire in the notch. Keep trying notches until you find the smallest notch that your wire can pass through. That notch represents the diameter of your wire. Second, the three numbers associated with each hole represent the diameter of the wire in decimal inches, in American Wire Gauge (AWG) and in mm. The top number is the diameter in decimal inches. The middle number is the American Wire Gauge or gauge. The bottom number is the diameter in millimeters. Please select here to view a web page with our free instructions for using a wire gauge.
Nostalgia Corner: Warning! Joke Follows. If you have ever in your entire life been offended by any joke -- please skip the below paragraphs. It is not our intention to offend anyone! We don't write these jokes, we only re-tell jokes that we have heard on the public radio, television or over the Internet. Boomer Humor: The following joke is our modification to the grand prize winner in the Best Joke for 1995 contest sponsored by Majon International. During a Papal audience, a business man approaches the Pope and says quietly "Anheuser Busch Breweries will donate 10 million dollars to Catholic Charities if you change the Lord's Prayer from 'Give us this day our daily bread' to 'Give us this day our daily beer.' The Pope listens respectfully but says "No my son, but go with god." Three weeks later the same business man is at another Papal audience and approaches the Pope and quietly says "Budweiser Beer will donate 100 million dollars to Catholic Charities if you change the Lord's Prayer from 'Give us this day our daily bread' to 'Give us this day our daily beer.' The Pope listens respectfully and this time he says "Yes my son, it will be done." In the next week the Pope addresses the College of Cardinals and prepares to notify the Cardinals of this change. He says "The good news is that we have found a new donor who will donate $100 million to our charity program." At this all the Cardinals applaud. The Pope continues "Unfortunately, the bad news is that we have lost the Wonder Bread account." Here is one more quickie courtesy of the same web site: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb. Answer: Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change. Boomer Philosophy on Global Warming: We haven't learned of any new science on the topic of global warming during the past month, but the existing science is really rather compelling and shows that the world wide concern over man-made Global Warming is totally unfounded. Since the US political process, as controlled by the US Congress, will re-address efforts at mitigating man made carbon dioxide emissions in the next month, we will continue to post our understanding of the real science of climate change. If you have read our prior posts, below is a summary with no new data. If you haven't read our prior posts, please read the below summary. Let us summarize the data available on global warming. First, scientists have about 3,000 years of relatively accurate data about the average sea surface temperature in the Atlantic Ocean. (Unfortunately, Al Gore elected to use only about 120 years of data in making his conclusions.) There is a body of scientific data that shows the average sea surface temperatures in the central Atlantic Ocean for the last 3,000 years is 23 degrees centigrade. Our peak for the average sea surface temperature in the Atlantic Ocean in the last 200 years is 22.8 degrees centigrade. We are, at this point, still about .2 degrees centigrade below the average sea surface temperature for the last 3,000 years. Sea surface temperatures in a large ocean like the Atlantic are considered to be a rather good indicator of the global average temperature and a good measure of global warming. Sea surface temperatures can be monitored by taking core samples from the ocean floor. Temperatures can be determined by the types of plankton that deposits on the ocean floor because many plankton species are very temperature dependent. The reason Al Gore's data is so wrong, is that the earth has been recovering from the "Little Ice Age" that ended about 1700. The Little Ice Age had the coldest global average temperature for the past 3,000 years of about 22 degrees centigrade. Is it any wonder that if the global climate is recovering from a period of intense cold that the temperature would rise steadily for the past 200 years? It shouldn't be.
By contrast the warmest period of average sea surface temperatures in the past 3,000 years occurred about 1000
years BC. At that time the average Atlantic sea surface temperature was 25 degrees
centigrade, about 2.2 degrees warmer than it is now. I wonder how many
coal fired power plants and cars they had 1,000 BC that caused that level of
global warming? Oh yeah, they had none. Announcements: Shipping Policy. We waive the shipping charge on orders over $60 shipped within the US (as long as these orders remain over $60).
