This jewelry wire component is made by making a loop in a piece of 18G wire (preferably 1/2 hard jewelry wire) about 4 inches long using your round nose pliers.  After straightening this piece of jewelry wire, place the initial loop over the first regular peg (smaller pegs shown in these pictures) on your jig.  Wrap the wire around the pegs in turn.  Remove the jewelry wire from the WigJig jewelry tool and cut the wire tail off.  Close the final loop you just made and the piece should appear as shown below.

Flemish Spiral

In order to ensure that the piece is fully closed and as strong as possible, we will wrap 24G jewelry wire around the center of the piece (again, 1/2 hard wire is preferred).  The first step in performing this wrap is to open the two small loops made on the regular pegs on your jewelry making jig (shown at left).  With these loops open, begin to wrap the wire around the middle of the piece as shown at right.  With every 1/2 wrap, squeeze the bend in the wire on either side of the bend with your chain nose, or bent chain nose pliers as shown below left.

Continue wrapping the 24 gauge jewelry wire and squeezing the bends tight for three complete wraps.  Now wrap the loose ends and tuck them in.  Cut off the excess wire.  Close both loops and the piece should appear as shown below (Step 5).

We are now ready to assemble the bracelet.

  1. Cut two 5 inch pieces of .019 Clear Soft Touch bead stringing wire.
  2. Using a 2x2mm crimp bead, crimp the Soft Touch to one end of the Flemish Spiral.
  3. String an 8mm pearl bead on the Soft Touch, followed by a 1x2mm crimp bead.  Crimp the crimp bead closed.
  4. Continue stringing seven 1x2mm crimp beads and eight pearl beads.
  5. After the eighth pearl, string a 2x2mm crimp bead and one side of the magnetic clasp.  String the Soft Touch back through the 2x2mm crimp bead.  Pull the clasp tight onto the Soft Touch and crimp the clasp onto the bracelet.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for the other side of the bracelet.
  7. Connect a 2 1/2 or 3 inch segment of fine wire to one side of the magnetic clasp using either a small jump ring, or a split ring.  This wire will become the guard chain.
  8. Connect the other side of the guard chain to the opposite magnetic clasp using the jump ring or split ring.
  9. Enjoy the finished product!

Summary of jewelry making instructions:

Formerly, bracelets made with pearl beads was a jewelry faux pax.  It was taboo because pearls were soft and bracelets got a lot of wear and tear.  Now, we have new pearl beads made by machines with a pearl like coating on a glass bead core.  For that reason, making a pearl beads bracelet is no longer the taboo it was previously.  We show making the Flemish Spiral jewelry wire component in 18 gauge wire.  For more advanced jewelry crafters, we suggest making this bracelet using 16 gauge jewelry wire for the Flemish Spiral link.  Larger and bolder are better for this bracelet design.
