Ten Minute Snap-Fit Earrings

Instructions for making 10 Minute Snap-Fit Earrings Using Gemstones and Jewelry Making Findings:

Here are two really quick and very easy jewelry making projects.  The only jewelry tools required are some fingers, thumbs and occasionally a pair of bent chain nose pliers.  If it happens that all your fingers are thumbs, do not give up.  A few of these projects are even suitable for someone who is all thumbs.  These are without question the easiest earrings to make.  When we say even a 5 year old can make these earrings, we really mean it.

Jewelry Making Supplies:

Jewelry Tools Required:

  • Bent chain nose pliers (Optional)

Jewelry Making Skills Required:

  • Abilit to hold a jewelry finding and push it onto a gemstone.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making Post Earrings Using Snap-Fit Settings:

1.  10 Minute Post Earring using Snap Fit Settings.  Choose any gemstone or CZ and select a pair of post findings that support the same diameter gemstone.  (If you have an 8mm gemstone, choose an ear post finding that supports 8mm.)  The easiest way to set these stones is to place them upside down on a cutting board and use a pair of chain nose pliers to help push the finding onto the stone as shown in the center, below.  Use an ear clutch to finish the project.  Please select here to view our video on how to make these gemstone snap-fit earrings.

Making Gemstone Earrings with A Lever Back and Snap Fit Settings:

Finished Lever Back Gemstone Earrings Jewelry Making Project2.  10 Minute Lever Back Earrings Using Snap Fit Settings.  These earrings are as easy to make as the post earrings, but don't require the pliers.  Place the snap fit portion of the lever back finding over your gemstone, with the gemstone upside down on a cutting board.  Push the finding onto the gemstone with you fingers.  Continue pushing until the stone snaps into place on all sides.  Now you are ready to wear your lever back gemstone earrings.  Please select here to view our video on how to make these gemstone lever back snap fit earrings.

Please note that very rarely, the prongs in a snap type setting can be bent during shipping.  This doesn't happen often, but it has happened.  If this happens, in almost all cases, the prongs can be easily bent back into shape.  If you have a pair of chain nose pliers, this is the preferred tool to use to straighten the prongs.  If you don't have pliers, your fingers will work.

Summary on Making Earrings with Snap Fit Findings:

The earring jewelry making projects described here are perhaps some of the easiest jewelry making projects available anywhere.  Please note that setting larger gemstones will be more difficult than setting smaller gemstones and in particular, setting a 10 mm gemstone is significantly more difficult.  Also please note that setting a 10mm gemstone with a snap-fit post finding may require a larger ear clutch like the larger clutch parts, item 1176 and 1177 that we recommended above.

Our opinion is that if you can follow the simple jewelry making instructions above, you will be able to make some earrings that will look professionally made and will make you proud.
